a Case Study for

Sheffield Theatres

Background

Sheffield Theatres is a theatre complex comprising three theatres, The Crucible, Lyceum and The Playhouse.

The Lyceum has over a hundred years of history, this magnificent theatre provides an ornate backdrop to the very best of the West End, with a capacity of around 1000 seats. The Crucible is a modern theatre with a capacity of approx 1000 seats situated on three sides of the stage meaning you’re never more than 20 metres from the action. Finally, the playhouse is the third theatre that flexes from 100 to 400 seats and welcomes top treats from the fringe, local heroes and new treasures.

Fun Fact: The Crucible hosts the World Snooker Championship every year!

The Solution

Sheffield Theatres has been a long standing customer of pointOne, but in recent years they upgraded their tech stack and moved to our cloud based solution. Sheffield theatres were looking for a smoother system that worked more seamlessly between the sites so upgrading their existing tech and moving to the cloud was the best solution for them.

The EPoS solution is intuitive and staff find the equipment easy to use, long standing staff are used to it and it doesn’t take long to train new staff as it’s simple and everythings there. We keep a similar setup across the venues making it streamlined as we have staff working across multiple areas.

Sheffield Theatres also take advantage of our crowdEngage integration. The initial decision to integrate with crowdEngage through pointone was to increase customer experience throughout their venues. They wanted to offer customers the ability to have their tickets hours before they arrive meaning entry into the building is sped up and streamlined to maximise the customer experience.

Through the crowdEngage app, Sheffield theatres can also communicate updates, offers and visiting information quickly and efficiently. In the time they have been using crowdEngage, Sheffield theatres have found it very useful and are now looking at how they can expand the integration further.

The knock on effect is an increase in bar sales through a number of ways. People who are comfortable with technology will order via crowdEngage, meaning the queues at the bar have decreased and bar staff now have more time to serve the customers who aren’t buying from crowdengage.

The Future

The future for Sheffield Theatre consists of many exciting plans including continued work on different sections in their venues including the hospitality areas in The Lyceum. There is also a big focus on making each of the venues as accessible as possible for their customers. Increased accessibility throughout the venues will ensure visitors can have the best experience every time they visit The Crucible or The Lyceum.
